Nosecones

For various reasons, nosecones on missiles may be made of matte, light scattering materials or coated with them. Whether composite, fiberglass or even styrofoam, missile components are ready for measurement by 4D InSpec.

Using the 4D InSpec’s long stand-off distance, it’s possible to measure inside recesses in a missile nosecone, such as the countersinks for fasteners, or inside screw threads.

If the surface has a defect, such as a scratch, nick or pit, you can qualify those with a three dimensional measurement in seconds.

Because 4D InSpec is not compromised by measuring multiple materials, it’s possible to measure a compound structure like a metal threaded section embedded in composite, and review the joint between those two.

Measuring Surface Features with High Resolution in Factory Environments

Because of the lack of rapid, accurate, shop floor measurement, inspectors often lack confidence in their assessments. The overly cautious estimations that result mean that rejection rates are typically much higher than necessary.
